Bell Green developers go into administration PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 April 2009 10:46

Castlemore, the lead developers of the Bell Green complex, has become one of the casualties of the credit crunch, and more particularly the downturn in the commercial property market.

Of the three original phases of the Bell Green development, phase 1 is the now well established Sainsbury's Savacentre.  Phase 3, in front of the Savacentre, is scheduled for mixed residential and retail development has been sold to a housing association, and a planning application has been submitted.

This leaves phase 2, the large area of now cleared ground to the north of the Savacentre.  Various speculative ideas are emerging about what might happen, but so far we are not aware of any steps taken by the administrators to dsipose of the area.

Maybe grasses and wildflowers will return, without worrying about the planning processes, to be followed later by the sky-larks?

Our new look site is getting closer PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 April 2009 15:12

We have all the articles from our old site now in our contents management system, although there may be some work to do getting the images in the right place before change over.

The big design decision has been the allowing articles to appear any number of times in our two main menu items, 'Campaigns, general interest' and 'Newsletters'.  'Newsletters' are straightforward - we put up (some of) the articles from each newsletter, and viewers can find the contents of each one by looking at the submenu for that issue.

With 'Campaigns, general interest', there is an alternative method of grouping articles, which could be by a campaign, e.g. 'Forest Hill Pools', or by a subject of general interest, e.g. 'Historic Buildings'. So an article on the historic buildings of Forest Hill Pools which appeared originally in one of our newsletters might appear three times, once as a historic building, once as along with articles about the Forest Hill Pools campaign, as well as with other articles from its newsletter.

One way or another, we hope viewers will find what they are looking for!

Vote for Mayow Park

Mayow PArkMayow Park has been open to the public since 1877, so it's time for a facelift.

A grant would help to make it more welcoming by restoring the drinking fountain and improving the children's playground, plus:

  • new multigames pitch
  • improved wildlife habitats
  • new seating and bins
  • repainted railings and new signage at entrances
