The strong local reputation of the Sydenham Society means that we attract a fair bit of comment - on balance positive - as for example on the Sydenham Town Forum.

A natural question sometimes asked in such contexts is 'What is the Sydenham Society for?'.

At the time of writing (September 2008) the Sydenham Society has over 1,100 members, who are involved in all aspects of community life, not necessarily as members, but always finding the networking and support we can provide invaluable.

Thank you to everyone who came to our AGM last night, especially Jim Dowd, MP - incidentally re-elected as a Sydenham Society VP - and our guest speaker Peter Ranken, director of Envirowork Lewisham, and shortly to become a member, I am told.

Last year has been a successful and productive one for the Sydenham Society. Thanks must go to all of our members, particularly those hard-working individuals who serve on the Executive and subcommittees who have helped me in my first year as Chair. I am deeply indebted to Pat Trembath who handed over the reins of the Society last year leaving an organisation that was highly effective and wellorganised and without whom this year’s successes would not have been achieved.
