You will all be aware of the tragic killing of 18-year-old James Hunter in Wells Park Road in May. James was popular with his friends, was days away from starting his first job and had a promising future. The police were quite emphatic that there was no gang activity involved.

Many people rallied around at the time and some councillors are organising a benefit for the family of James – his mother had 3 jobs and she has another son of the same age and they had to move elsewhere to private accommodation in Lewisham so that any repercussions do not flow from remaining in the same place.

Local restaurants and pubs are donating prizes, the Grove Centre Church have offered the hall for free, the Young Mayor of Lewisham’s team are helping out with volunteers and Cllrs Janet Daby and Rachel Onikosi have been working hard to make it a success.

We would be most grateful if you could buy a ticket or make a donation – financial support when a family is trying to find its feet again can be crucial at this time. For a ticket please call Councillor Liam Curran on 07850 714108 or email:
