Train companies who run England’s 1,007 stations have announced a proposed mass closure of station ticket offices. Approximately three out of five stations have a ticket office.
Train operators point out that just 12 per cent of tickets are sold by offices, compared with 82 per cent in the mid-90s. If the plan goes ahead, the ticket offices will be closed gradually over the next two years.
London Overground, Underground, Elizabeth and DLR ticket offices are not affected by this announcement but it’s easy to see why they would also come under threat if these proposals go ahead.
