Galliard Wind Ensemble – the Dolphin, 7.30pm Tuesday June 14
As former BBC New Generation Artists, the Galliard Ensemble has become one of Britain’s leading chamber groups, with repertoire running from Mozart and Beethoven to Berio and Schoenberg. Soon to celebrate their 20th
anniversary, they play regularly in many of Britain’s prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre and Bridgewater Hall, at festivals throughout Europe, with appearances at the BBC Proms, also at the Huddersfield
Contemporary Music Festival and the Bath, Brighton and Harrogate festivals, the MAFRA Festival for the British Council and the Castello Branco and Porto
Festivals in Portugal. They regularly give masterclasses and lectures to the top British music academies.
“Top calibre performers shining the beam of their musicality on an unequivocal masterpiece” Barry Millington, London Evening Standard
“Birtwistle’s Refrains and Choruses makes demands that were easily met by the Galliards: the capricious textures were handled with the same assurance they brought to Ligeti in the beguiling Six Bagatelles.” The Times
“Deftly pointed” The Daily Telegraph
“Taut and well rehearsed” The Financial Times
Tuesday’s programme:
Rossini – Overture from the Italian Girl in Algiers
