Now you can borrow e-books from local libraries

A growing number of local library titles can now be downloaded as ebooks. The books are available to be read on a variety of different platforms – PC, Mac, android, Blackberry, I Phone, I Pad, Windows 7 and most ereaders except the Kindle.

The books can be borrowed for two weeks – after this time they disappear from your system.

All you need is  a Lewisham library card and you can borrow e-books from three local authority library collections – Lewisham, Bexley and Bromley. Currently only a few hundred books are available for download but this number is growing rapidly.

Since e-books can be borrowed “remotely” (you don’t have to go to your library) this raises the long-term question of whether numbers visiting local libraries could be affected.
