Hazel Grove win 2013 Lewisham Homes Award

The Hazel Grove estate in Sydenham was the big winner at the 2013 Lewisham Homes Resident Involver Awards and Conference. Around 100 Lewisham Homes’ residents, staff and special guests attended the ‘Be Part of Something Special’ event held at the Civic Suite, on Saturday 9 March.

Hazel Grove won ‘Most Creative Community Project’ for their intergenerational film documentary that charts the personal histories of the residents through interviews, music and dance. Aiesha Morris, aged 14, also from Hazel Grove, won the ‘Young Champion’ award for mentoring and coaching the young residents who took part in the film. Nominees were selected by residents in advance and winners were chosen by residents voting on the day.

Aiesha participated in Hazel Grove film project which featured residents of all ages in the estate. She mentored the younger members of the project, particularly helping them to remember their lines and dance routines for the final film premiere performance. Her creative side also shone through by creating newsletters to encourage participation in the project and impressed the judges with her talent for singing and dancing.
