Plans to close station ticket offices scrapped

Ticket offices in 150 London stations and 1,007 ticket offices nationwide have now been saved.

That’s the message from the government who have now scrapped plans to do away with most station ticket offices apart from those at major stations. Currently approximately three out of five stations have a ticket office.

Local stations affected include Lower Sydenham, Penge East, Catford, Catford Bridge, Kent House and Sydenham Hill.

This was one of the largest public consultations on record with over 750,000 responses.

The plan was put forward by train operating companies in part as a response to falling rail passenger numbers and more passangers ordering ticket on-line.
