If you would like your business featured please email see3traders@gmail.com with information about your business. Although we officially support the high street we will be happy to highlight a local business even if it is virtual, as long as it is based in, and available to, any of our three areas: Sydenham, Forest Hill and Kirkdale. One business will be highlighted per month, based on a first come, first served system.

Sydenham Park Footbridge Improvements

Improvement work has taken place on this much used footbridge. The bridge was closed over the summer to refurbish the steps and the bridge was re-opened as planned on Friday 2nd September. The works involved repairs to the steelwork structure, re-painting of the all the steelwork, replacement of the mesh side panels and new stair treads and handrail. The second phase will be the replacement of the bridge span and additional lighting in November. The current improvements are needed to keep the bridge safe and open to the public. There are plans to replace the steps with a stepped ramp as part of a longer-term plan to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the bridge. Council officers are now looking into this option in greater detail and will explore possible designs and identify funding. Once we have these designs we will consult with residents.

Our Lady & St Philip Neri School

Cllr Chris Best has been leading on the planning situation at Our Lady & St Philip Neri School and is delighted to report that planning permission has been granted for work to strip back the cladding and instal terracotta tiles on the upper parts of the building with blue/grey brick on the lower part. Planning approval has now been given for the sample blue/grey bricks on the lower part and works are now starting. Although the Strategic Planning Committee meeting on Thursday 28th April granted planning permission there has been a delay in tendering for the contractor and getting the brick samples from Germany. This has taken some time to agree and the current phasing shows a planned completion in the next summer holidays. The remaining issue of the signage to the school main entrance in Home Park and the lettering on the front of the building are still to be agreed. We are looking forward to a building we can all be proud of.

A Greener Sydenham

It’s great to see new planters outside the Sydenham Centre. Many thanks to Ignition Brewery for organising this. In addition, residents on Ormanton Road have secured funding for a new community garden. The ambitious plans will see a regular fly-tipping spot becoming a beautiful community garden. You can follow their progress on Facebook.
