St Christopher’s Sydenham Charity Shop needs volunteers
St Christopher’s are looking for volunteers to take on a ‘taster session’ in one of their flagship charity shops.
This comes after research by Hospice UK found that more money was now spent in hospice charity shops than is spent on hospices by the government.
St Christopher’s Sydenham shop – the closest store to the Lawrie Park Road site – is looking for keen supporters to join them for a taster session between Monday 25 November and Sunday 1 December.
You’ll find out what it’s like volunteering in a St Christopher’s charity shop and have the opportunity to experience some of the great benefits of donating time, including supporting your local hospice, learning more about sustainable fashion and making new friends.
Whether you’re aged 16 or 86, there’s lots for you to do and get involved with including welcoming shoppers, receiving and sorting new donations, and talking with people about their donations and purchases makes a huge difference to help St Christopher’s.
Jamie Gower, 31, has been volunteering for St Christopher’s shop in Bromley for 18 months. He says: “I really enjoy speaking with customers and spending time with my fellow volunteers, as well as supporting St Christopher’s.
“I like feeling useful and making a difference, as well as getting valuable experience. My favourite task is sorting out the donations of children’s toys and making sure they are in a suitable condition.
“I’m also great with the hoover at the end of the day,” adds Jamie.
Volunteering Advisor at St Christopher’s, Marina Harden, says: “Just four hours could help support those at the end of life and make such a difference.
“Whether it’s displaying our bric-a-brac, hanging the latest pre-loved fashion or chatting to customers, we’re sure you’ll have a blast. Who knows, you might enjoy it so much that you come back for years, just like hundreds of other volunteers.”
