Renaming the London Overground

London Mayor to rename all six Overground lines (including ours!) by the end of the year.

Created in 2007, the London Overground network currently serves 113 stations, and more than three million passengers use the London Overground each week.

The London Mayor is proposing to rename the six routes on the London Overground, so that “our” line from West Croydon and Crystal Palace to Highbury & Islington/Dalston Junction in the north would have a new name in six months’ time. And all of the other Overground routes would have the same treatment.

Over the summer months Arriva (who run the Overground on behalf of the Mayor) will be organising a programme of community engagement, led by their partner agency DNCO.

This will involve field research, using and travelling on the London Overground network to listen to its many communities, as well as interviews with London experts, London Overground staff, and community and creative groups with local expertise.

Arriva are inviting you to share your ideas by responding to the following question:

Is there anywhere we should look for inspiration, any stories we should dig out, people we should talk to, places we should visit, books we should read which might help us discover better names?

Please send responses to londonoverground@dnco.com by 5pm on Monday 10 July and indicate whether you would be happy for your views to be used to inform the London Overground naming research project, and whether you are happy for DNCO to contact you, if they require any further information. Please note that the purpose of this email address is solely to collect responses to this question, and it is not being monitored for general enquiries or comments, which should be directed through your usual channels at TfL and emails on other topics will not be dealt with.
