Plans for 261 new homes at Bell Green

Barratt London have now submitted their planning application for a residential development on the site of the former gasholders at Bell Green.

The proposal is for three blocks ranging in height from 5 to 15 storeys, with the tallest block sited on the edge of the spine road (Alan Pegg Place) opposite Sports Direct. If granted planning permission, the development will provide 261 homes plus new retail units and workspace, landscaping and amenity space – including a ‘greenway’ running behind the Livesey Hall and connecting with a new path from Perry Hill to the Pool River.

In the view of the Sydenham Society there are many positive features to the development but we have serious concerns about the height of the “point” block – at 15 storeys it would be twice the height of any residential blocks in the area. Locally, at 8 storeys, the block under construction on the corner of Mayow and Dacres Roads is currently the highest.
