Train, bus and tube fares rise by average 5.9 per cent from March 5
Free travel for children and those aged 60- 66 to continue.
The London Mayor announced yesterday that Overground, bus, Elizabeth Line, DLR and tram fares will jump by an average of 5.9 per cent from March 5. These are in line with National Rail’s proposed fare hikes of 5.9 per cent fare rises announced late last year.
Central London Tube fares are set to jump by 12 per cent as the Mayor says he wants to protect Londoners in outer boroughs from higher costs. In Zone 1 fares will increase by 30p from £2.50 to £2.80. The Zone 1-6 TfL fares cap for contactless and Oyster will be £14.90 daily and £74.80 weekly. The daily bus and tram fare cap will go above £5 for the first time.
Free travel for children and seniors (those currently aged 60-66 years old) is retained. London is the only place in England where free transport travel for 60-66 year olds is free. During the pandemic, seniors were not able to use their free travel before 9am on weekdays. The Mayor has announced that this will become permanent immediately (ie no free travel for senior before 9am weekdays).
