New parliamentary constituency boundaries

Goodbye Lewisham West? Goodbye Dulwich and Sydenham? Hello Lewisham West and East Dulwich?

The Electoral Commission has just published its latest (and probably final) recommendations on how England’s electoral constituencies should be re-organised in 2023, in time for the probable next general election. Proposals for the remainder of UK constituencies (in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) are also being considered and finalised.

The idea is to ensure wherever possible that each constituency contains between 69,724 and 77,062 electors.

In its first report (published in Summer 2021) the commission envisaged a Dulwich and Sydenham constituency dropping Penge and Anerley and incorporating Sydenham, Forest Hill, Dulwich Village, East Dulwich and part of Herne Hill.

The new report has changed this plan considerably in a new constituency to be called Lewisham West and East Dulwich. This is made up of four wards in Lewisham Borough (Sydenham, Forest Hill, Perry Vale and Crofton Park) and three in Southwark Borough (Dulwich Hill, Peckham Rye and Goose Green). In line with the Summer 2021 scenario, Penge and Anerley are no longer in the constituency.

A guide to our new friends!

The three Southwark Borough wards included in the new constituency:

Dulwich Hill is crossed by Underhill Road and contains Camberwell Old Cemetery and Dawson’s Hill Park
Peckham Rye contains One Tree Hill, Camberwell Old and New Cemeteries and Peckham Rye Park
Goose Green is crossed by Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Grove and East Dulwich Road
