Sydenham Park footbridge improvements
The footbridge over the railway line between Dacres Road and Sydenham Park Road (to the side of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church) is soon to be repaired and refurbished. The bridge has stood at this spot for almost 150 years and its condition has slowly deteriorated.
The work will be carried out in two phases with the refurbishment of the stairs (phase 1) taking place over the school summer holidays and the main bridge span (phase 2) scheduled to be replaced in November.
In order for the work to be carried out the bridge will have to be closed for the first phase from 23rd July to 31st August. The second phase closure period will be announced closer to the date.
Lewisham Council is looking into future plans to replace both approaches to the bridge to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the bridge. This could be done by building a ramp or similar structure on each side.
