Sydenham International Music Festival opens to packed houses

The opening concert of the Sydenham International Music Festival on Sunday evening was a runaway success.  More than 30 potential concert goers had to be turned away as a  “Concert Sold Out” notice was posted on the door of St Barts.

Inside the church,  the St Bartholomew’s Festival Orchestra and conductor Robert Trory were in fine form playing both Beethoven’s stirring Overture Egmont and Mendelssohn “Scottish” Symphony No 3 with gusto and superb timing.  The concert’s set piece – Brahms’ “double” concerto for violin and Cello, with soloists Sergey Dogadin and Maja Bogdanovic – was met with rapturous applause by the packed audience.

Now on to the Dolphin on Tuesday 24 where the much-sought-after Aquinas Trio will play a programme of Mozart, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saens. Again all tickets are sold out.

The message is clear – if you want to attend any future concerts in the 2011 you need to get hold of tickets now and not leave it to the night.
