Sydenham features strongly in Lewisham’s Make a Difference community volunteer awards
Lewisham Council’s community volunteer awards ceremony at the Town Hall last week resulted in recognition for one individual and two groups from the Sydenham area. The Make a Difference awards – open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Lewisham – had eight categories and no fewer than three fell to Sydenham.
Winner of the Neighbourhood and Community Award was Anthony Scully who has led schemes to improve and transform Home Park. Anthony also sits on the Sydenham and Bellingham local assembly ward panels. He is Chair of the Save Sydenham Library Campaign which played a major part in saving Sydenham Library from closure.
In the Group Volunteering Award the Myplace Young People’s Focus Group came out winners for their work in helping to plan the new multi-million pound youth club planned for Wells Park Road. This group of 16 young people are all from the Sydenham area.
Sydenham Garden won the Organisations Award and is a local charity in Wynell Road presenting therapeutic activities for people experiencing mental ill-health or other related illnesses.
Congratulations to all three winners who help to make Lewisham, and in particular Sydenham, such a special place to live.
