Jazz at the Golden Lion – Mick Hutton Quartet, Tuesday June 28, 8.30pm

Tues 28 June, 8.30pm, The Golden Lion, 116 Sydenham Road SE26 5JX; free.

Mick Hutton has been active on the British jazz scene for over thirty years and has appeared alongside an extremely diverse range of musicians including Humphrey Lyttelton, Kenny Wheeler, Bill Bruford, Nigel Kennedy, Gary Husband and Lee Konitz. Unable to play double-bass for six years after an accident that broke a ligament in his left hand, Mick has returned to the instrument after surgery and some time spent learning a new left-hand technique.

The Mick Hutton Group was formed in 1999 with Andy Panayi (saxes/flute) and Mark Edwards (piano) – Paul Robinson (drums) joined in 2004. Don Weller replaced Andy Panayi in 2010 and the group’s tour and CD launch took place in January and February 2011. Between them, these four musicians have an enormous amount of experience and they have developed a very strong group identity. The music is a mix of Mick Hutton originals, Ellington and Mingus tunes with the accent on accessibility.
