Boundary review redraws Lewisham West and Penge

Proposals from the Boundary Commission will radically redraw London’s parliamentary map, including our own Lewisham West and Penge constituency. Under the new proposals – aimed at making the number of voters in each constituency broadly  even –   Penge and Anerley will be removed from our constituency and included in the adjacent Beckenham consituency, whilst  part of Herne Hill, Dulwich Villlage and East Dulwich will be joined with Sydenham, East Dulwich and Honor Oak to form a new Dulwich and Sydenham constituency.

The proposals are now out for consultation.

According to figures produced for the Guardian newspaper, the new proposed constituency would still be a safe seat for Labour. Here are the votes for the new constituency based on a crude analysis of the composition of the new constituencies using the 2010 General Election results:

Vote breakdown:
Conservative: 10,078
Lab: 21,961
LD: 12,497
Green: 1,390

The Evening Standard, says that “formerly Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has seen her Dulwich and West Norwood constituency split up and could end up fighting Labour’s Jim Dowd for the new seat of Dulwich and Sydenham”.
