Brockley Jack Theatre Present SUMMER

Join the Brockley Jack for the world premiere of Summer by Julia Stubbs Hughes, based on the novel by Edith Wharton, the Pulitzer Prize winning novelist of The Age of Innocence.

Summer created a sensation when published in 1917, as it portrayed a young woman’s passions dangerously at odds with her society. This premiere is brought to the Jack by the producers of Bodies Unfinished, which was nominated last year at the Jack for five Off West End Awards.

Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was one of America’s greatest writers. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1921 for ‘The Age of Innocence’ and 2012 marks the 150 th anniversary of her birth. This premiere will coincide with those celebrations, showing that Wharton is now considered by many as an iconic writer for the 21st century.

The Jack is also pleased to welcome two new companies to the theatre, Mercurius and OutFox, who present Chekov’s comic Vaudevilles and a compelling adaptation of Wedekind’s Spring Awakening.
