Sydenham Arts Festival 2012 kicks off with Arts in the Park/Family Fun Day

Sydenham Arts Festival 2012

The fourth fantastic Sydenham Arts Festival launches this Sunday and continues until July 15. With more than 40 events to choose from, discovering the arts on your doorstep has never been easier! The “festival fortnight” starts at 1pm in Home Park with the free Arts in the Park/Family Fun Day afternoon of music, art, food, dance and drama – plus a children’s art exhibition in Sydenham Community Library. The Festival brochure with details of all events is now available at the Kirkdale Bookshop, Alhambra Home & Garden, and other shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes in Sydenham, Kirkdale Village and Forest Hill.   • At 1pm: official opening of the festival, as Sydenham-based Charlene Soraia sings her hit song “Wherever You Will Go” (used in the Twinings Tea advert and reached No.1 in the i-Tunes chart)
  • 2.15pm: A circus show featuring robotic dancing, comedy mime, juggling and audience participation
  • 2.30pm: Animation workshop – ‘Mister Who’, a team of talented illustrators and artists, run a workshop embodying the fusion of video animation, eclectic music and illustrated comics
  • 3pm: Endurance Steel Orchestra – locally-based, energetic & musically delightful steel pan orchestra
  • 3.10pm: Children’s puppet show – Hogwash Theatre Company’s production of ‘The Vegetable Plot’
  • 4.15pm: Harmony Wind Quartet – a family classical concert within Sydenham Library
  • 5.15pm: Singer songwriter Randolph Matthews, who draws on the soul greats and Neo African rhythms to create surprising and original work.
