Eleanor Marx
A Life of Struggle, Solidarity and Socialism
2pm on Saturday 16 January Venner Road Hall SE26 5EQ See a map here
Celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Eleanor Marx in Sydenham where she ended her life.
Eleanor played a pivotal role in the development of the trade union movement (especially ‘new unionism’), the birth of the Labour Party and as a tireless fighter for working class people, especially women, all over the globe.
The event will include speeches from Eleanor’s biographer, Rachel Holmes, author of Eleanor Marx: A Life (a former Radio 4 book of the week) and Hannah Sell, deputy general secretary of the Socialist Party.
Performances by Townsend Productions (making a name for delivering ‘vivid, politically committed theatre’ – the Observer) and an exhibition of photographs entitled Women in Struggle. All the family welcome. Refreshments available.
