Greenwich Leisure takes over Lewisham pools and gyms

Lewisham Council has hired Greenwich Leisure to manage the borough’s gyms and swimming pools.

The local council has broken with Fusion Lifestyle to take over the boroughs leisure centres from Fusion Lifestyle.

The centres are expected to undergo a phased reopening this autumn.The decision to award GLL the contract was taken under “urgency procedures” behind closed doors by the council in the middle of August and have only just come to light.

Councillor Andre Bourne, cabinet member for culture, jobs and skills said Fusion is “looking to concentrate on other areas of their business”.  

“Lewisham Council continues to work towards the safe reopening of leisure centres, subject to the new Covid-19 restrictions”.  

The new contractor is a not-for-profit social enterprise and one of the UK’s leading operators of leisure centres who currently manage 100 public facilities across London under the ‘Better’ brand.
