Reopening Lewisham’s Leisure Centres

All leisure centres and swimming pools were forced to close during the height of the pandemic, and LBL is working hard so they can safely reopen leisure centres, subject to the new COVID-19 restrictions. LBL has taken the opportunity to secure a new partner, which will see the phased reopening of leisure centres and swimming pools starting this autumn. They will now be working with Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), a not-for-profit social enterprise and one of the UK’s leading operators of leisure centres. GLL currently manage 100 public facilities across London under the ‘Better’ brand.

The entire leisure centre sector has faced significant financial challenges this year, with five months of closure bringing an abrupt stop to operators’ income even though they still had to cover staff and maintenance costs. LBL’scurrent leisure partner, Fusion, is looking to concentrate on other areas of their business in light of the impact of coronavirus.
